Students will be introduced to verb tenses and declensions along with Latin vocabulary.

Oral reading is practiced more to develop the skills of proper speed and inflection. Comprehension and discussion questions are more abstract, sparking deeper thought. There is a continued study of poetry. Composition builds on skills learned in fourth grade developing student’s ability to paraphrase a text.

Story problems, fraction work, and place value become more advanced. Work begins with factoring, ratios, and percentages.
